- Subscription Contest #2 has
been brought to a close. The winners will be notified tonight via
e-mail, but I think most of you already know who you are :) I
really appreciate all of your efforts! I also would like to thank
the sponsors who made it possible. While the subscription contest
itself didn't reach the goals, the subsequent word-of-mouth brought
hundreds of readers.
- We need more web sites for
the link trading... if you or anyone you know is trying to promote their
site... it's the best way to show off to lots of people.... so let them
know :)
I don't
normally lose an e-mail message, but for the life of me I can't find the
message sent to me just a couple days ago asking me to do a little spot on
how to zip/unzip stuff, and what you use. Sorry for losing the
message, whoever you are, but I'll definitely do that. :) Sounds like
a good plan for tonight, when I venture back into the office for some more
late night server fix-it jobs.
Also, I think a short lesson on how to
install a font is in order as well... it's really easy, but it's one of
those things that, like the Zipping tutorial, should be in the Learning
Center. That and Wallpapers, Themes... ummm.. a few others. So
that's this week's project... if anyone can come up with a few more of those
little things that everyone should learn how to do... e-mail
me and let me know! AND BY THE WAY... if anyone out there would
like to actually write something for the learning center... (preferably
including screen grabs and such graphic aids) I would love to put it
up. I wish I could offer money... but you'll have to settle for a name
and a link or what-not. This is a labor of love at the moment, so if
you think it's worth your time to teach others, I've got a nice spot to get
it out to everyone.

The
Onion
http://www.theonion.com |
This is quite possibly the funniest site
I have seen so far on the net. They say just about everything I
refrain from saying to maintain my "close to PG"
status. Oh, it isn't graphic or anything, but there is a little
strong language and innuendo. They have a disclaimer prohibiting
those under 18, and while I think that might be a little too
constrictive based on the content I've seen... I'll stay on the side
of caution and say that there is strong language... but there is also
some really, really, really, really funny parodies on today's news
topics there.

I'm
gonna add this to my collection too. Another WebFerret-like
searching machine, except instead of web pages or graphics, this one
only finds mp3 music files. Very easy and intuitive and fast...
and has a built-in FTP for downloading the music when you find
it. It's a definite must-have.

This puppy has some unique
features. You can explore yours Windows95/98/NT startup managers,
including config.sys, Autoexec.bat, the Registry... the startup menus etc.
It gives you a good display of which services are starting up, whether it's a
boot or logon loader, and what files are being loaded specifically for your
particular account. This can help you determine if there is something
loading at startup which is causing your woes. Sure, there are other ways
of going about getting the data, but few if any are this easy.
